Eng. Irene Batebe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), has emerged the best performer of 2023 at the Ministry\u2019s end of year party held at Nican Resort in Seguku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Batebe was recognized for her exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment, and consistent performance exceeding expectations. She was saluted for streamlining the integration of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) as well as her dedication to prioritizing MEMD\u2019s set goals .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHer can-do attitude and meticulous attention to detail were pivotal during the REA mainstreaming,\u201d Dr Brian Isabirye, head of the selection committee and Commissioner of Renewable Energy at MEMD stated adding that she consistently put MEMD\u2019s objectives above personal ambitions and demonstrated positivity, willingness to take risks, and innovation even during challenging times. “Her leadership made her the driving force behind MEMD\u2019s success, earning her the title of a true star performer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other staff honoured at the event included Ms.\u00a0Sarah Nafuna\u00a0Acting Commissioner of the Nuclear Energy Department,\u00a0was lauded for her leadership and for fostering a respectful and resilient work environment within the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grace Nassuna,\u00a0Assistant Commissioner of Geoscience,\u00a0was recognised for her dedication and role in the enactment of the Mining and Minerals Act 2022.\u00a0Tony Sserubiri,\u00a0Principal Energy Officer,\u00a0was commended for his dedicated and impactful contributions to the development of oil and gas in Uganda.\u00a0Loyola Karobwa Rwabwose,\u00a0a Mining Lawyer,\u00a0received praise for her\u00a0passionate and unwavering support across MEMD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tony Mwesigwa\u00a0an\u00a0Economist,\u00a0was recognised for his consistent dedication and outstanding performance in planning and budgeting for MEMD.\u00a0Judith Akullo\u00a0a\u00a0Senior Assistant Secretary,\u00a0was\u00a0commended for her exemplary support to administration and dedication to service.\u00a0And\u00a0Diana Rose Tumwesigye\u00a0an\u00a0Office Attendant,\u00a0was\u00a0recognised for her passion,\u00a0dedication,\u00a0and positive attitude, consistently supporting the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Dr Ruth Nankabirwa who was the chief guest at the party, congratulated the team and emphasised the importance of continued collaboration and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have been demanding an end-of-year party for the Ministry staff (after the COVID-19 pandemic),\u201d she said with a smile, \u201cand today, I must congratulate the team for organising such a wonderful party at a Ugandan-owned premise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She celebrated the Ministry\u2019s significant achievements, praising the hard work of everyone present and urging them to continue working together. \u201cBe proud to be in MEMD,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019re moving, and international companies are coming to Uganda to express interest in our business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Nankabirwa also emphasised the importance of facing challenges head-on. \u201cThe IGG may come a thousand times,\u201d she said. \u201cWe know people develop envy when they see us achieving, and it\u2019s okay. Just tell them that we shall do our work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Bateebe thanked the ministers for their stewardship and the staff for their dedication. \u201cThis year has been both successful and challenging, but we\u2019ve overcome several challenges together,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She warmly welcomed the new team members who joined the ministry during the year and encouraged the ministry staff to rest, recuperate, and enjoy the holiday season with their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
